Predicting which Buffalo Bills training camp storylines will impact season
Is Ed Oliver and Von Miller a cheat code for the Buffalo Bills?
When the Buffalo Bills signed Von Miller as a free agent, it was undoubtedly going to have a major impact on the defense. A defense that finished first in most categories but did need help generating sacks consistently.
The thought was that adding Von Miller would be a big help for Greg Rousseau, who would line up on the other end of the defensive line but in fact, it may be Ed Oliver who benefits the most. Last week, center Mitch Morse said when Oliver is lined up next to Miller it almost is like cheating.
How will this impact the regular season?
While Isaiah McKenzie has been the star on the offensive side of the ball, Ed Oliver has seemingly been the star on the other side of the ball. The idea of a true breakout season for Oliver is not out of the question and is probably not an aggeration at this point.
The quickness Oliver brings from the defensive tackle is rare in the NFL and may only be matched by Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald. When combining this with a player Von Miller, who is having a great training camp in his own right, is going to make this a tough defensive line to block with the penetration up the middle from Oliver and Miller coming off the edge.
Ed Oliver has been improving year over year but this upcoming season could be the one he really reaches that next level. He has the physical tools to be an All-Pro defensive tackle and this may be the year that it all comes together for him.
