Predicting which Buffalo Bills training camp storylines will impact season
The offensive line is constantly being shuffled
The one part of the team that has dealt with the most injuries to date has been the offensive line. It started early with Rodger Saffold being added to the NFI list due to rib injuries suffered in a car accident. In addition, Ike Boettger is on the PUP list as he works back from an Achilles injury suffered last season.
Over the course of training camp, the list of players who have missed practice includes Ryan Bates, Greg Mancz, and Tommy Doyle with Dion Dawkins missing time for personal reasons. In addition, Spencer Brown hasn’t participated in team activities and has been limited to only individual drills.
How will this impact the regular season?
While this certainly is not ideal, this shouldn’t have much impact on the regular season. This is assuming that what was expected to be the starting five (Dawkins, Saffold, Mitch Morse, Bates, Brown) are able to get in some practice time between now and the regular season.
The positive, similar to the current situation with Jordan Poyer, is that this has given some players further down the depth chart opportunities for more reps, particularly with the starters. Cody Ford, Bobby Hart, and David Quessenberry have all benefited from this and it will help the coaching staff really evaluate where this part of the roster is ahead of the regular season.
