The Buffalo Bills held their eighth practice of training camp, and their second in a row, on Tuesday at St. John Fisher University. The big news from practice was a key player on defense left early with an injury that likely will force him to miss the rest of preseason and training camp.

Jordan Poyer leaves practice early

The top headline from Tuesday’s practice was Jordan Poyer leaving practice early after suffering an elbow injury. After practice, Poyer did leave the locker room apparently wearing a sling and he was going to get an MRI.

This would be a major loss for the Buffalo Bills because of how well Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer play together. The ability of both players allows the coaching staff to mix up responsibilities for the players and the depth behind the starters is relatively unknown at this point because of how durable Hyde and Poyer have been over the past five years.

The good news is that according to Adam Schefter, Jordan Poyer is expected to be back in time for the regular season. This is tremendous news with how important he is to the defense and this also creates an opportunity for some backups to get some valuable practice reps with the starters.

Among the backups, Jaquan Johnson likely gets the first chance to replace Poyer while he is out but there is likely now an unexpected position battle with Johnson probably pushed by Damar Hamlin for that spot.
