Buffalo Bills 53-man roster projection before training camp
Defensive End (5)
Von Miller, Greg Rousseau, AJ Epenesa, Boogie Basham, Shaq Lawson
Cut: Mike Love, Kingsley Jonathon, Daniel Joseph
With the departure of veterans Mario Addison and longtime Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes, the defensive end group will look very different for the better part of a couple of years.
First, the massive signing of Von Miller will immediately command the opponent’s attention. Youngsters Rousseau, Basham, and Epenesa will fill out Buffalo’s pass rush, and Shaq Lawson returns to Buffalo as a backup and potential early down contributor for the Bills.
The defensive unit is about as straightforward as the quarterback room. Shaq Lawson is the only player at risk of getting cut if he shows that he has put on too many miles since his last tenure with the Bills.
There will be more pressure on the young defensive ends for the Bills. Rousseau, Epenesa, and Basham were all drafted inside the first two rounds of the NFL draft. If they do not start to perform up to their draft status, then the Bills may have some issues at defensive end.
