Buffalo Bills 53-man roster projection before training camp
Tight End (3)
Dawson Knox, OJ Howard, Reggie Gilliam
Cut: Tommy Sweeney, Jalen Wydermyer, Quinton Morris
With the new addition of OJ Howard, the Bills finally have an excellent backup tight end for Dawson Knox. Howard had a similar career trajectory to Knox until he ruptured his Achilles in week four of the 2020 season.
He gives the Bills depth at the position, and we could now see the Buffalo Bills use multiple tight end sets on offense much more often. With Knox and Howard firmly entrenched as starter and backup, the Bills are set production-wise from a tight end.
The last option is fullback, tight end, h-back, and special teams extraordinaire Reggie Gilliam. Since entering the league as an undrafted free agent, Gilliam has been a valuable asset to Buffalo, considering how many roles he can fulfill at once. For that reason, Gilliam gets the edge over guys like Sweeney, Wydermyer, and Morris, who could end up on the Bills practice squad.
