Special Teams (3)

Tyler Bass, Matt Araiza, Reid Ferguson

Cut: Matt Haack

Tyler Bass and Reid Ferguson have no competition in camp and will be on the Buffalo Bills. If the Bills need to put a player on Injured Reserve, they may cut Reid Ferguson and resign him after they place said player on IR. So off of technicality, Ferguson may be cut, but this happened last season, and he was back the next day.

There is a competition at punter, and the veteran Matt Haack’s success with the Bills has mostly been as a holder and not a punter. Rookie Matt Araiza had one of the biggest legs in college football, and the Bills are hoping to finally get a dangerous leg that can switch the field.

However, Araiza’s downfall is that he has minimal experience holding. Something the Bills are notably not a fan of with their punters and pretty much the reason Corey Bojorquez was not resigned after he nearly led the league in net yards per punt.

The competition should be exciting, but in my eyes, it is already over. Brandon Beane would not spend a draft pick on a punter if he did not plan to play him from day one. And if you need any proof of that, just look when the Bills drafted Tyler Bass, spelling the end of Stephen Hauschka’s time with the team.
