How rare would it be for every player of a position group to make the team out of training camp? I think it happens with the safeties this season for two reasons. First, I feel each of these five guys has a role on game day. While most of it may be in a special team’s capacity, there is a role.

Second, With the injury to Tre’Davious White, the Bills are a little shorthanded in the secondary, and extra depth never hurts. With the suspension of Andre Smith, the Buffalo Bills are down one of their core special teamers for the first six games.

The Bills could opt to keep the sixth linebacker, but I think they keep an extra safety. Extra defensive backs when your best corner is hurt is never wrong. Additionally, the race for the last safety roster spot last season was a close one, and all three of the backups to Hyde and Poyer not only can play a role on special teams but can continue to learn and be potential replacements for Hyde and Poyer, who are both 31 years old.
