The Buffalo Bills drafted Devin Singletary in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft with the hope that he could be the featured running back for this offense. The Bills had to wait almost two and half years but at the end of the season, Singletary showed he was capable of being that player.
He finished with over 1,000 yards from scrimmage for the first time in his career and had eight total touchdowns, which was double his previous career high of four in his rookie season. A majority of these yards and touchdowns happened in the final five games of the regular season when he was playing almost all the snaps at the position.
Devin Singletary’s role with the Buffalo Bills should not change in 2022
While the addition of James Cook, who was drafted in the second round, might give some pause that the Buffalo Bills may not be as confident in Devin Singletary, I believe the opposite to be true. Cook is going to be primarily a factor in the passing game and the Bills will move him around the field.
While Singletary did have 40 receptions on 50 targets, his strength is not in the passing game and this work was primarily just out of necessity. However, with Cook now on the roster, the Buffalo Bills can give Singletary the opportunity to carry the football and this is where he excels the most.
Removing the receptions and targets from his workload, it can give him the chance to increase his rushing attempts from last year’s average of 11 to upwards of 16 or 17 per game. This will give the offense more balance and Singletary can be the first running back with over 1,000 rushing yards in a season for the Buffalo Bills since LeSean McCoy.
5 best contracts on the Buffalo Bills roster for the 2022 season
Some of the biggest contracts on the Buffalo Bills roster are also some of the biggest bargains for this franchise this season.
Devin Singletary is going to be a big part of this offense in 2022 and is the reason for him being the sixth best player on the Buffalo Bills roster who will be 25 years old or under to start the upcoming season.
