The Buffalo Bills addressed the cornerback early in the 2022 NFL Draft when they traded up to select Kaiir Elam in the first round. The former Florida Gators cornerback is expected to be a starter very early, as early as Week 1.

He will be competing with Dane Jackson for that second cornerback spot during training camp but both players could end up being the starers against the Rams. The reason is that Tre’Davious White is still working back from a torn ACL and there is no guarantee that he will be ready to start the season.

This puts a lot of pressure on Elam to impress during training camp and gives the coaching staff confidence that he can be a starter. The Buffalo Bills open the season against Matthew Stafford, who is one of the top quarterbacks on their schedule, and the Bills’ cornerbacks will be lining up against a trio of wide receivers in Cooper Kupp, Allen Robinson, and Van Jefferson.

If Elam struggles or the coaching staff does not believe he is ready to be a starter, it would not be surprising to see them add a veteran free agent before the season.
