Secondary (9)

Cornerbacks: Tre’Davious White, Kaiir Elam, Dane Jackson, Taron Johnson, Siran Neal

Safeties: Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde, Jaquan Johnson, Damar Hamlin

For the secondary, there is no change from the prior projections and these nine players should be considered the favorites for a roster spot.

The one thing that could have the biggest impact here is the health of Tre’Davious White’s knee and where he is in his rehab coming out of training camp. White is recovering from a torn ACL suffered against the New Orleans Saints in November of last year and the hope is that he will be ready for the start of the season.

If he is not ready, or not at 100%, the Buffalo Bills could elect to add another cornerback for depth and two players that could make sense for that additional spot, if the Bills don’t sign a free agent, would be Cam Lewis or Nick McCloud.

Cam Lewis does have a little more experience and when given a chance to play, has done a good job. The other name to watch is Nick McCloud and the reason is that he is getting some practice time at safety and having a player who has the position flexibility that McCloud has been a backup at both positions could help add more depth to the secondary as a whole.

Special Teams (3)

Place Kicker: Tyler Bass

Punter: Matt Araiza

Long Snapper: Reid Ferguson

No changes here for the Buffalo Bills’ special teams as Tyler Bass and Reid Ferguson are set to be the team’s starting place kicker and long snapper with no other competition on the roster.

The one position battle here is between Matt Araiza and Matt Haack for the starting punter position. At this point, Araiza should still win the job but the winner here likely won’t be decided until the preseason games.
