Duke Johnson

The Buffalo Bills signed Duke Johnson to a one-year deal after the team’s deal with J.D. McKissic fell through.

The addition of Johnson was interesting because at the time it appeared to fill a big need in this offense as it gave them a running back that excels as a pass catcher. Johnson certainly would do that with his career 311 receptions, including five straight years with 40 or more receptions.

However, a few weeks later during the 2022 NFL Draft the Bills drafted running back James Cook in the second round. The former University of Georgia running back also is an excellent pass catcher and is a better option to fill this need.

This doesn’t close the door entirely on Duke Johnson making the roster but he is going to be competing with Zack Moss. The former third round pick is coming off a down year but only entering his third season, the Bills may lean towards Moss and Johnson may be released during the roster cutdowns.
