Early look at 4 roster needs the Buffalo Bills could address in 2023
Buffalo Bills 2023 Position Need: Tight End
The Buffalo Bills added a tight end this offseason by signing former first round pick O.J. Howard, who joins a position group that includes Dawson Knox and Tommy Sweeney. Those two players were drafted in 2019 with Knox being selected in the third round and Sweeney in the seventh.
The reason this is a potential position of need is that all three players are not under contract past this season with Howard only signing a one-year deal and Knox and Sweeny entering the final year of their rookie contracts.
The key to this group is certainly Dawson Knox, who had a break-out season last year and led the league among tight ends in receiving touchdowns. He was a big part of this offense and there is no reason that should change this coming season.
If the Bills are able to agree to an extension with Knox, which may have become more challenging with the recent deal between the Browns and David Njoku, then they can continue to take this approach of finding veterans like Howard during free agency to complete the position.
If the Buffalo Bills are unable to sign Knox, then it becomes a bigger issue and they will likely need to invest more to find a starting caliber tight end.
