With the offense the Buffalo Bills have, the biggest concern may not necessarily be having a player that has tremendous speed back there but rather a player the coaching staff feels confident will secure the ball and make sure the offense gets on the field.

If that is the direction they want to go, Micah Hyde may be the best option for punt returns.

Early in Hyde’s career, he was the Packers’ primary returned on punts with 76 punts over four seasons and averaged 9.7 yards per punt, and even had three punt returns for touchdowns. The Bills haven’t asked their starting safety to do that as much with only 19 punt returns over five seasons and he has never had double-digit punt returns in a season.

The biggest reason to avoid this option is that Hyde is a key part of this defense and it does create a risk of injury by having Hyde as the primary punt returner. I would imagine the coaching staff will pick their spots with using Hyde as a punt returner, like in the game against the Patriots, but at this point, it can’t necessarily be ruled out.
