4 players on the Buffalo Bills roster who could win the returner job

In an ideal situation, the coaching staff would like to see Isaiah McKenzie win the job and hold onto it the whole season. He is a great combination of experience, along with quickness and explosiveness, that could give Buffalo a player that has the ability to return it for a touchdown any time he touches it.

In four seasons with the Bills, he has 35 career punt returns for an average of 9.2 yards per punt. While this average is helped by his 84-yard punt return against the Dolphins in 2020, his average last year was still very good at 7.7 yards per punt. He also averaged 24.3 yards per kickoff return.

These yards certainly help an already good offense be in a favorable position when they take the field.

The concern is ball security, and it seemed like most of the league knew that. Prior to the Colts playing the Bills, special teams coordinator Bobby Ventrone said on Hard Knocks, “This guy puts the ball on the ground a lot.”

It was foreshadowing as McKenzie had a fumble in that game against the Colts on a kickoff return.

If McKenzie can improve on ball security, he would be the best player to step into this role for the Buffalo Bills this coming season.
