Buffalo Bills Position of Concern: Offensive Guard

The Buffalo Bills appear set with the starters at offensive guard this year after signing Rodger Saffold as a free agent and matching Ryan Bates’ contract offer from the Chicago Bears. This was a position of concern for most of the season and it didn’t really get better until the end of the year once Bates became a full-time starter.

However, as the Bills saw last year depth is critical at guard and really across the entire offensive line. This is where the position really has some issues and could cause problems during the year.

Currently, the primary backups at guard are Ike Boettger and Cody Ford with both being big question marks. For Boettger, he is working his way back from an Achillies injury and Brandon Beane said, according to Chris Brown, when they re-signed him they will have to see where he is physically at the start of training camp.

As for Cody Ford, this is probably his last chance to show he can be a contributor on this offense as he has struggled when given a chance to start for extending periods of time. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract and if he does struggle this offseason, it wouldn’t be that surprising if he was a roster cut before the season.
