Grades for all eight draft picks made by Buffalo Bills in 2022 NFL Draft
Buffalo Bills Draft Pick: James Cook (2nd Round, 63rd overall)
For some, this may be too early for a player that is viewed almost exclusively as a pass-catching running back. While this is what James Cook has primarily shown at college, he should not be limited to just that role.
In regards to his ability as a receiver, he certainly excels here and is probably the best at his position. He had 67 career receptions over four seasons with Georgia and has the ability to move around the formation, even lining up in the slot or out wide.
The reason that this is a great pick for Buffalo is that he could eventually become a starter at the position. He is not going to be a running back that sees 20 carries a game but he certainly could get close to that number by balancing carries and receptions.
If the Buffalo Bills do not bring back Devin Singletary after this season, James Cook could step in as the starter and see a workload split to what Alvin Kamara had early in his career with 60% carries and 40% receptions. This would be enough to keep defenses honest but not take away from Josh Allen and this passing game.
