Buffalo Bills 2022 NFL Draft Prospect to Know: Master Teague
If the Buffalo Bills want to wait until Day 3 to draft a running back, then Master Teague out of Ohio State could be a player they target. Let’s take a closer look at his resume and what he could bring to this offense.
Measurables/Stats
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 225 pounds
Master Teague played four seasons at Ohio State but has a relatively low workload during that stretch with only 323 career rushing attempts. He has had only two seasons over 100 rushing attempts and never broken 150 in a single season.
He has primarily gotten his work on the ground with 1,764 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns with only 11 career receptions and 118 receiving yards. One game that teams will likely point to highlighting Teague’s potential is against Michigan State when he had 21 carries for 95 rushing yards and a touchdown, which was easily his best game of the season.
The Draft Network Scouting Report by Kyle Crabbs
"Teague shows subtle redirection to avoid backfield penetration coming out of the mesh point and Teague is aggressive with his free arm as well to create extra space in the open field and continue to pick up additional yardage. Credited with some eye-popping numbers at a Tuscaloosa football camp in 2017, he reportedly ran in the 4.3s in the 40-yard dash with a 40-inch vertical leap. He’s added some weight since then and he’ll need to prove his power and twitch is back in 2021."
How Master Teague fits with the Buffalo Bills
Master Teague is a physical running back that likely would come in to be a backup to Devin Singletary and probably compete with Zack Moss for a roster spot. The biggest challenge with Teague is that he has never been a primary starter for a full season so he is a relatively unknown prospect at this point.
Another concern is that he has dealt with a number of injuries the past few seasons after suffering a torn Achilles during spring practice in 2020. He was able to return later in the season and played seven games but this past season also only played seven games due to “unspecified recurring” injuries.
If the Buffalo Bills were to draft Master Teague, this would likely be an indication that the team is confident in Devin Singletary as the lead back with Duke Johnson helping on passing downs. It really would put Zack Moss on notice and create a training camp battle between those two for that final running back spot on the 53-man roster.
