A.J. Epenesa

The defensive end position has gone through some drastic changes this offseason with Jerry Hughes, Mario Addison and Efe Obada either signing with another team or still a free agent and unlikely to return. The reason is that Buffalo made one of the biggest signings in free agency by adding Von Miller, along with also bringing back former first round pick Shaq Lawson.

These two players now join a group that includes Greg Rousseau, Boogie Basham, and 2020 second-round pick A.J. Epenesa. While it is probably unlikely that Buffalo would release Epenesa after two seasons, the coaching staff should hope to see more from him this summer.

In two seasons with the Bills, Epenesa has only 2.5 sacks and towards the end of the season he was clearly the fourth option in the rotation behind Hughes, Addison, and Rousseau with players like Basham and Obada pushing for snaps when they were active.

The one player that could make Epenesa a potential trade option or even miss the 53-man roster outright is Shaq Lawson. If Lawson comes in and plays well this summer, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Epenesa fall to fifth on the depth chart and in that territory, he is probably fighting for a roster spot.
