A few days after the Buffalo Bills released Cole Beasley, it appears they have already found his replacement after agreeing to a one-year deal with veteran slot receiver Jamison Crowder. This is the grade for the signing based on what the player brings to the team and the contract the Bills and Crowder agreed to.

What does Jamison Crowder bring to the Buffalo Bills?

Jamison Crowder is a smaller wide receiver at 5’9″ and 177 pounds but excels as a slot receiver and is a sure-handed wide receiver that can move the chains. He was a fourth round pick by Washington in 2015 and would spend his first four seasons with the team, appearing in 56 games with 221 receptions, 2,628 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns.

Crowder would leave in free agency in 2019 and join the New York Jets and has played the past three seasons there. He has played in 40 games over that stretch with 188 receptions, 1,979 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns.

Contract

According to Spotrac, the Buffalo Bills and Jamison Crowder agreed to a one-year deal worth $2 million but has only a base salary of $1,120,000. The cap hit of $1.98 million ranks 76th among wide receivers for the 2022 season.

Final Grade: A

The slot receiver has been a big part of this offense the past few seasons and Cole Beasley has emerged as one of the top slot receivers in the league. There certainly is a level of risk by releasing a player like Beasley as he has had 82 receptions the past two seasons.

However, Jamison Crowder could be the perfect replacement for Beasley and could be in line for a breakout year. He has never played with a quarterback of Josh Allen’s caliber and when considering the Buffalo Bills were able to save $6 million releasing Beasley and add a cap hit under $2 million for Jamison Crowder, this has the potential to be one of the biggest bargains of the offseason for Buffalo.
