Buffalo Bills should call the Carolina Panthers about Christian McCaffrey

When healthy, there isn’t a better dual threat running back than Christian McCaffrey. In his first three seasons with the Panthers, McCaffrey had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage each year with over 80 receptions as well. The best season was in 2019 when he had 1,387 rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns with 116 receptions, 1005 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.

However, the problem is that the former first round pick has not been able to stay healthy and has played only 10 total games the past two seasons.

There would certainly be risk trading for McCaffrey with his injury history and the fact that he does have significant cap hits moving forward over $13 million each year. However, Spotrac notes there is an out after this season where he could be released that would result in a $12.8 dead cap penalty.

If the Buffalo Bills were to add McCaffrey it would give them one of the top playmakers in the NFL that they could move around from being in the backfield to also lining him up in the slot. It would certainly make the offense more dynamic but they would likely try to manage his rushing attempts which may not help the run game as much.
