Emmanuel Sanders provided some insight last week on what his future might be with the Buffalo Bills and the NFL

Last week, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders was on The Colin Cowherd and was asked about what his future might be with both the Buffalo Bills and the NFL in general.

Sanders mentioned that Josh Allen was asking if he wanted to return shortly after the playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and Sanders said that he wanted some time to think. Based on what he said to Colin Cowherd (43:30 minute mark), it sounds like retirement is on the table but if he returns, he is returning for a Super Bowl which would limit the teams he might play for.

“For the past three years, I’ve been traveling and moving from team to team to try and win a Super Bowl. But I got some reflecting to do and possibly retire. I don’t know yet.”

Sanders did say that he is probably taking a month to three months to decide what his next step is. However, if he were to return, he said “100 percent” he would return to Buffalo.

Emmanuel Sanders should have a different role in 2022 with the Buffalo Bills if he returns

If Emmanuel Sanders did decide to continue playing, and the Buffalo Bills were to bring him back for next season, the role would likely look very different than the start of this past season. Sanders began the season as the starter opposite Stefon Diggs.

However, as the season went on he was dealing with some injuries and Gabriel Davis emerged as a real threat in this offense. The Buffalo Bills shouldn’t limit Davis’ snaps moving forward so if Emmanuel Sanders were to return, it should be as a backup for this team.

There certainly is value in having a veteran like Emmanuel Sanders waiting in case the need arose but it would be interesting to see if Sanders is interested in something like that.
