57th Overall: Lecitus Smith, OG Virginia Tech

Measurables: 6-3, 315lbs.

Lecitus Smith may be the first player of the draft season that the Buffalo Bills have been rumored with, considering he said it himself at the Senior Bowl via an interview with Russell Brown of Cover 1.

Lecitus Smith was a three-year starter at Virginia Tech and, in my opinion, one of the most exciting guards to watch pull in college. Smith is powerful and a strong finisher. I would not really call him a guy who mauls other defensive linemen, but he definitely controls the interaction while blocking. Smith has solid instincts and is very solid both in the run game and pass protection.

Here is a sound clip of Smith stalling a very respectable defensive tackle prospect.

So why is Smith in the second round? He does not have any elite athletic traits, and his arms are a little short for the position. Additionally, Smith is slightly new to his position as he played and was recruited as a tight end from his high school days. I think the lack of clear and obvious limitations on the field is why Smith would be such a good fit in Buffalo. He may not be a star at the next level, but he will give the Buffalo Bills an option on the interior, which has minor weaknesses.

Additionally, Buffalo may be a little thin at guard heading into this offseason considering Ike Boettger is coming off an Achilles injury and the only players with experience at the position under contract are Daryl Williams, Cody Ford, and Jon Feliciano, and the latter two may not be on the roster come draft time.

Overall, Smith is an outstanding, well-rounded guard talent who Buffalo seems to like at the moment. And the Buffalo Bills cannot really afford to go another season without drafting an interior offensive lineman.
