Buffalo Bills bolster the depth at defensive tackle by signing Eli Ankou
The Buffalo Bills help the depth at defensive tackle by bringing back Eli Ankou on a reserve/future contract
The defensive tackle position is one that has plenty of question marks this offseason with Harrison Phillips, Vernon Butler, and Justin Zimmer set to be free agents. They also have to decide if Star Lotulelei is going to remain with the team or be a cap casualty.
While they have plenty of question marks, the front office continues to try and improve the position with the signing of Eli Ankou to a reserve/future contract on Monday. This type of contract is only for players who were not on an active roster and it doesn’t take effect until the new league year in mid-March.
Prior to joining the Buffalo Bills, Ankou appeared in regular season games for the Dallas Cowboys in 2020, Cleveland Browns in 2019, and Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017 and 2018.
Buffalo Bills make a good move bringing back Eli Ankou
The Bills signed Eli Ankou last offseason but he was waived midway through training camp. They would eventually re-sign him to their practice squad in November and he remained with the team for the rest of the season.
Even though he was on the practice squad, he did play a good amount down the stretch and appeared in five games. Ankou would play double-digit snaps in each game and finished the year with nine tackles, one tackle for a loss, and one sack.
In the end, this is a good low-risk move for Buffalo that adds a player at a position of need that played well when given the chance. It would not be surprising to see Ankou end up being a surprise addition to the 53-man roster depending on what other moves the Buffalo Bills make.
