The Buffalo Bills would come up short on Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs in a 42-36 overtime loss. However, the Bills wouldn’t have been in that position if it wasn’t for Josh Allen and wide receiver Gabriel Davis.
Davis in particular had an incredible performance with eight receptions, 201 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Those four touchdown receptions are an NFL record for most receiving touchdowns in a playoff game.
There were 18 other players, according to Pro Football Reference, who accomplished catching three in a game with Chiefs tight Travis Kelce the last player to do it in the 2019 playoffs.
The second-year wide receiver would catch his first touchdown of the game in the closing minutes of the first half that would pull the Bills even with the Chiefs heading into halftime. The second touchdown came in the third quarter on a 75-yard catch, which was the longest play of the season for the Bills.
Gabriel Davis makes big plays in the final two minutes
Then in the fourth quarter, particularly the final two minutes of the game, Davis made huge plays that gave Buffalo the lead on both occasions. The first in this stretch came on fourth and 14 where Davis was able to force his defender to trip on a juke and be wide open in the end zone for a 27-yard touchdown.
The second touchdown of the final two minutes, and the one that set the record, Allen once again found Davis on a post route up the middle of the field, this time a 19-yard reception.
The Buffalo Bills would come up short but this was an incredible performance by second-year wide receiver Gabriel Davis and he should be a big part of this offense in the coming years.
