Round 5, Pick 166: Ali Gaye, EDGE (LSU)

For the third straight year, the Buffalo Bills draft at least one defensive end with the selection of Ali Gaye. He is a long defensive end at 6’6″ and 250 pounds, a similar body structure as Greg Rousseau. However, Gaye wasn’t as productive with only 4.5 sacks and 12 tackles for a loss in two years with LSU.

The defensive end position could look different next year as Jerry Hughes, Mario Addison, and Efe Obada are all set to be free agents at the end of this year. The Bills still have A.J. Epenesa, Greg Rousseau, and Boogie Basham, three players they drafted in the last two years.

However, the coaching staff rotates pretty frequently at the position, similar to defensive tackle. It makes sense for the Bills to draft another defensive end, especially if they don’t bring back any of the players currently set to be free agents.
