7. Buffalo Bills did not trade for Zach Ertz

Entering the 2021 offseason, one of the positions of need appeared to be the tight end position. The Bills had drafted Dawson Knox in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft but he hadn’t developed into that top tight end the Bills were hoping.

During the offseason, the Bills were rumored to be interested in a few tight ends, most notably Eagles’ tight end Zach Ertz. At times, it was rumored that Buffalo was close to trading for him but nothing was ever finalized.

In the end, the Bills not adding Ertz was a great move because Dawson Knox has become one of the better tight ends in the league. He has 46 receptions, 538 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns. The receiving touchdowns by Knox are tied for first in the NFL among tight ends and also leads the Buffalo Bills.

There is certainly a case to be made that Knox would have had that breakout season with or without Ertz on the roster but he would not have had as much opportunity as he has had this year. The Bills not trading for Ertz will go down as one of the better moves of 2021.
