Tre’Davious White suffers torn ACL, out for the season
The fears for the Buffalo Bills from their Thanksgiving win over the New Orleans Saints were confirmed on Friday as Tre’Davious White suffered a torn ACL and is out for the season, according to the Buffalo Bills. This is a major loss for the Buffalo Bills who have one of the top secondaries in the NFL.
Tre’Davious White was a first round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2017 and became a full-time starter almost immediately. He has developed into one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL and has made consecutive Pro Bowls the past two seasons as well as being named a first-team All-Pro in 2019.
The Bills recognized the talent that Tre’Davious White is and signed him to an extension prior to the 2020 season. Now in his fifth season, White has missed only three games but that total is now going to significantly increase with him set to miss the remaining six games this regular season.
Buffalo Bills have a big challenge in replacing Tre’Davious White for the rest of the year
Unfortunately for the Buffalo Bills, while head coach Sean McDermott has always talked about next man up, this one is going to be much tougher to replace. White is a big part of what has made this defense successful and the Bills don’t have another cornerback on the roster as talented as him.
In the game against the New Orleans Saints, the Bills had Dane Jackson replace Tre’Davious White but all options are going to be on the table as the team needs a long-term answer and not necessarily a temporary solution.
Jackson will certainly be in the mix, but the Buffalo Bills could also look at Cam Lewis who is on the 53-man roster but was a healthy scratch against the New Orleans Saints. They also have two undrafted free agents on their practice squad in Nick McCloud and Olaijah Griffin.
