Jerry Hughes
On the defensive side of the ball, the Bills actually played pretty well against the Jacksonville Jaguars. They only allowed two field goals and the pass rush had one of their better games with two sacks and five QB hits.
This week, the Bills are facing Mike White who will be making only his third career start, although last week against the Colts he played only 14 snaps after being forced to leave the game due to injury.
The best thing a defense can do against an inexperienced quarterback is to limit their time in the pocket. This doesn’t necessarily just mean sacks but could mean pressures, forcing White to move in the pocket and throw from different vantage points on the field.
The player that can set the tone for this group is Jerry Hughes, who is the longest-tenured player and a leader in the locker room. He only has 1.5 sacks on the season but has one of the best pass rush grades on the season, according to Pro Football Focus.
If Jerry Hughes can win his matchup against Jets’ left tackle George Fant, it is going to be a big boost to the rest of the defensive line and should create problems for Mike White.
