Buffalo Bills: 3 free agents they should consider signing this week
Buffalo Bills Free Agent Target: Tre Boston
The depth at the safety position was a big question mark due to the inexperience of Jaquan Johnson and Damar Hamlin, two players who didn’t have a career start entering this season. That depth was tested this week with Jordan Poyer out due to an ankle injury.
The good news for the Buffalo Bills was that Jaquan Johnson played well and the team should be confident in him playing if the need were to arise again. However, it also wouldn’t hurt to have an experienced backup on the roster just in case, like Dean Marlowe the past few seasons or Kurt Coleman before him.
Fortunately, there is a safety currently that is a free agent that has experience in Sean McDermott’s defense in Tre Boston. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2014 and spent his first three seasons in the NFL playing for McDermott, who was defensive coordinator for the Panthers during that time.
Boston has 76 career starts over seven seasons and could be a player that realistically could step in as a starter almost immediately if the need were to arise. He is a good veteran to have within the organization if Johnson were to struggle.
