3 Buffalo Bills with work to do before matchup with Chiefs in Week 5
Daryl Williams
Daryl Williams was kicked inside to right guard for the game against the Houston Texans in a new look Bills offensive line. With guard Jon Feliciano out with a concussion and another guard, Cody Ford benched we saw Williams who is usually the right tackle slide inside as rookie tackle Spencer Brown took his spot. While Buffalo only allowed one sack and rushed for over 200 yards (if you do not count yards lost on QB Kneel to end the game) which would indicate good offensive line play Williams certainly looked like he needed some more time and reps to adjust to the right guard spot.
Through three games this season Williams has an overall PFF grade of 53.1 which is well below his grades last season where he had a pass blocking and run blocking grade of over 76.9. Williams has had to face some tough players such as T.J. Watt, Chase Young, Montez Sweat, Emmanuel Ogbah, and Christian Wilkins in the first three games he still has struggles and looked less comfortable than he did last season.
Against the Texans, Williams lined up at guard for the first time in his Buffalo Bills career. While he certainly had several bright moments at guard it was visible that he was not completely comfortable with the position. Considering he had not taken meaningful snaps at guard in years this is certainly not something to worry about.
However, Williams is on this list for two reasons. First, he played well enough last season to earn an extension this offseason valuing $24 million. Williams’s play this season has not reflected that of someone earning eight million dollars a year. His move to guard hopefully gives him some new looks and juice to improve his play this season. Buffalo is also hopeful that Williams’s move inside can also help the play of the guard position which has been largely disappointing this season.
