Tremaine Edmunds makes an impact play early for the Buffalo Bills against the Houston Texans
The Buffalo Bills offense has struggled to start the game against the Houston Texans but the defense continues to play at a high level. The defense had their backs against the wall after Josh Allen threw an interception on his first pass attempt of the game.
The Texans returned it to set up their offense in the red zone. However, they were unable to come up with any points after the defense stopped them on fourth down.
After a quick three and out for the Bills offense, the defense was back on the field. It was a short trip though as middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds made the play of the game to this point with an interception of Davis Mills.
Buffalo Bills were hoping to see impact plays from Tremaine Edmunds this season
Tremaine Edmunds was a first round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2018 and stepped in almost immediately as the starting middle linebacker. He has played well early in his career and has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the past two seasons.
The team picked up Edmunds’ fifth-year option in the offseason but was looking for more from their starting linebacker in 2021. During training camp, defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier talked about wanting to see more impact plays from Tremaine Edmunds.
Frazier described those impact plays as turnovers or sacks and this interception was exactly what the Buffalo Bills needed. After recording three interceptions in his first 29 regular season games, he hadn’t had an interception in the past 21 regular season games which ended with this game against the Texans.
This is certainly a great sign for Edmunds and helped create a spark for the Buffalo Bills as Josh Allen was able to find Dawson Knox for a touchdown to give them a 7-0 lead over the Texans.
