Josh Allen returns to MVP form as the Buffalo Bills dominate Washington

Josh Allen leads the Buffalo Bills to a blowout win over the Washington Football Team in Week 3

The Sean McDermott Bills have once again flexed their special ability to come back from losses.

It was the brutal loss to Arizona last year that sparked one of the best six-game stretches of Bills football in the franchise’s history. In 2021, the Bills have once again responded to a loss by playing an absolutely dominating brand of football in all three phases. For the second week in a row, the Bills completely dominated their opposition from the opening whistle, never letting them feel hope.

The Buffalo Bills responded to playing against a tough defensive front by attacking with lethal simplicity. The Bills beautifully mixed the run and the pass and Josh Allen used his arm and his mind to tear Washington’s defense to shreds. Allen got the Bills into the right offensive looks and consistently delivered the ball on time and on target. The defense flew to the ball and constantly flushed Taylor Heinicke out of the pocket and forced him to throw into tight windows.

The Buffalo Bills were put behind the sticks early, facing a third and 15 and a potential 3 and out on their first drive of the game. Allen connected with Gabriel Davis for 18 yards on third down and the Bills offense was jumpstarted. Allen would continue spreading the ball to all of his receivers and the Bills scored touchdowns on three of their first four drives to take a commanding 21-0 lead.

Adversity would hit in the second quarter when an untimely blitz against a screen pass resulted in 73-yard touchdown for Washington running back Antonio Gibson. The Football Team would then get the ball back on the ensuing kickoff when a forward bounce and a ricochet off a helmet led to Dustin Hopkins recovering his own kickoff deep inside of Buffalo territory. Washington would take advantage of their good fortune and cut the deficit to 21-14.

The Football Team had gotten back in the game but the Bills would not allow them to hang around. The stars in the Bills secondary Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, and Tre’Davious White all played like Pro Bowlers and they all created turnovers.

Buffalo Bills passing attacks returns to 2020 form

The passing game looked like the 2020 passing game with plenty of catches and touchdowns to go around. Josh Allen put together a vintage performance completing 32 for 43 passes for 358 yards and 5 total touchdowns. Emmanuel Sanders proved to be worthy of his playing time, popping off for his first big game with the Bills in a 94 yard, two-touchdown performance.

It was a good step forward for the offensive line especially given how bad they had looked against the Steelers pass rush. The adjustment in the gameplan to get the ball out sooner was very effective and should be used against other teams with great pass rushers.

Josh Allen will look to continue to build an MVP case and the Bills will go for 3 wins in a row next week against Houston.
