While the offensive line certainly lost the battle in the trenches against the Steelers, no lineman struggled more with his assignment than Dawkins.

Look no further than the three offensive holding penalties Dawkins took in the contest. Playing on the left side, the 27-year-old was mainly responsible for blocking edge rusher Melvin Ingram, and it’s fair to say Ingram had his way with Dawkins.

The three penalties Dawkins received in Week 1 halved the number of fouls he took in 2020. It was a little surprising to see Dawkins look lost against Ingram as the former Charger struggled last season in what was an injury-marred campaign. Despite suiting up in seven games, Ingram didn’t record a single sack and registered just five QB hits.

Dawkins will have to do a better job of protecting Allen’s blindside if Buffalo wants to have success against dominant pass-rushing teams like Pittsburgh.
