Detroit Lions running back Craig Reynolds (46) runs against Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin (31) and safety Tariq Thompson (40) during the second half of the preseason game at Ford Field in Detroit on Friday, Aug. 13, 2021. /

Cornerback: Nick McCloud

After just missing a pick-six a week ago on a ball that just barely hit the ground, McCloud was able to get his hands on another pass in Week 2 and this time he secured the interception. As an undrafted rookie McCloud has been getting a noteworthy amount of playing time.

His interception came in the second quarter off of Andy Dalton as McCloud was inserted into the game before recent Bills draft picks like Rachad Wildgoose. McCloud has been fighting an uphill battle to make this roster but to this point, he has done everything he can and then some.

Safety: Damar Hamlin

The backup safety tandem of Damar Hamlin and Josh Thomas has been better than anticipated to kick off the preseason. Hamlin has flashed excellent instincts and is always around the ball, coming up to make some nice stops in run support.

Hamlin made one rookie mistake, arriving late to help Siran Neal on a 73 yard Rodney Adams touchdown, but there were more positives than negatives. Hamlin finished with four total tackles, one tackle for a loss, and a fumble recovery.

Special Teams: Marquez Stevenson

Stevenson has made a great impression to start his Bills career, he made my team of the week as a wide receiver a week ago and this week he returns but in a different role. His elite speed was on full display during a dazzling 79-yard punt return touchdown.

Perhaps the most impressive part of Stevenson’s return touchdown is that that was the first time he had fielded a punt in a game since his sophomore year of college back in 2018. Even in college, Stevenson only returned 4 punts in his whole career so it was truly amazing to see him look so natural doing something that he has never really done.
