Hint at the Buffalo Bills plan for the final preseason game?
The addition of running back Kerrith Whyte and cornerback Tim Lewis could give some hints for what the plans are for the Buffalo Bills or who could be available in the game against the Green Bay Packers.
There are plenty of questions going into this final preseason game because this year there are only three preseason games. It remains to be seen how the Buffalo Bills are going to view this game, either as a tune up for the starters or as what used to be the fourth preseason game where it is almost exclusively backups.
If the Bills are viewing this as the fourth preseason game, the additions of Whyte and Lewis make sense as these are two positions the team needs more depth. At running back, the Bills have been without Antonio Williams and Christian Wade as they work back from injuries. If the Bills hold out Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, this would leave only Matt Breida and Reggie Gilliam at running back.
The signing of Whyte could be an indication that Marquez Stevenson won’t be available and the Bills could use another player with return experience. Stevenson was recently spotted in a walking boot and while x-rays were negative, the Bills could be cautious with the rookie.
As for Whyte, he had 14 kickoff returns while he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019 and 81 kickoff returns during his time at Florida Atlantic University.
During a time where the Buffalo Bills were expected to be cutting the roster down, it is interesting to see them add a few players and it is certainly worth watching over these next few days.
