Detroit Lions fullback Jason Cabinda (45) makes a catch behind Buffalo Bills linebacker Andre Smith (59) during the first half of the preseason game at Ford Field in Detroit on Friday, Aug. 13, 2021. /

Linebacker (6)

Tremaine Edmunds, Matt Milano, AJ Klein, Tyrel Dodson, Tyler Matakevich, Andre Smith

Cut: Joe Giles-Harris, Tyrell Adams, Marquel Lee

After the game against the Lions, you could easily argue that this could be Buffalo’s strongest position. A ton of people were enamored with Tyrell Adams coming into camp due to him being 12th in total tackles last season in the whole league. However, as it stands today, he likely is not making the roster.

Edmunds, Milano, and Klein are safe. Tyrel Dodson and Andre Smith both were on the team last year and showed why they should be a part of the team vs. the Lions. Andre Smith seems to have made a huge jump and now could be much closer to earning some defensive snaps than many believe. Known as a special teams ace, Buffalo gave him an extension this offseason which shows their belief in his ability to develop.

Matakevich is a special teams mainstay and a great locker room vet who will make the roster. While Matakevich does not get to play much defense he did show some solid play in his few series against Detroit.

One name to watch out for is Joe Giles-Harris. One of the most athletic players in the group he has shown some pretty serious flashes that would make Buffalo consider keeping an extra linebacker. One idea I will offer is Buffalo trading AJ Klein. Klein was very up and down last season but is not really a feasible cut candidate because of his contract. However, if Buffalo were to get some value in return. Maybe Beane would consider trading Klein so he could keep Giles-Harris.
