Linebacker (6)

  • Tremaine Edmunds
  • Matt Milano
  • A.J. Klein
  • Tyrel Dodson
  • Tyler Matakevich
  • Andre Smith

Cut:  Tyrell Adams, Mike Bell, Joe Giles-Harris, Marquel Lee

Tremaine Edmunds, Matt Milano, and A.J. Klein are all locks. Klein and Edmunds had some highs and lows last season but both performed pretty well for most of the year. After those three Tyler Matakevich has a really good shot of making the team. Signing an extension this offseason Matakevich proved to be one of the best special teams players the Buffalo Bills had. While he rarely took any defensive snaps he still provides strong value and leadership to a special teams unit that often mans some young players.

Behind Matakevich there are some jobs that are up for grabs. I have Tyrel Dodson and Andre Smith making the roster. Both players were a part of the team last season in different roles. Smith was a very good special teams player and earned a two-year contract extension this past summer because of his play indicating Buffalo would like to keep him around. Dodson did a solid job filling in for Edmunds/Milano in a couple of games and series throughout the season. Buffalo did certainly bring in some competition for this position group and I would not be surprised if any of the four cuts listed made the team over Dodson or Smith.

Each backer competing for a spot has a slightly different skill set and one of the most intriguing is Tyrell Adams. At the center of very poor defense in Houston Adams finished 12th in the entire NFL with 125 tackles. Adams may not be a star but 125 tackles are nothing to scoff at. This is the type of player who Beane may try and flip for a late-round pick if Buffalo decides he will not make the team but he certainly is knocking at the door of Smith and Dodson.
