Levi Wallace has been a solid number two cornerback for the Buffalo Bills behind Tre’Davious White ever since he took over the role in 2018, but he has always had someone looming in the number three spot on the corner depth chart.

Wallace has been able to fight them off though. He fought off Kevin Johnson in 2019, and Josh Norman in 2020. In his three seasons as a starter, Wallace has allowed a sub 60% opposing completion percentage, and an 82.3 opposing passer rating.

In 2021 however, Wallace may finally be surpassed as the number two cornerback. His biggest challenge this year will be promising second year corner Dane Jackson.

The Bills selected Jackson 239th overall in the 2020 Draft, and they got a solid return on their investment last season. The University of Pittsburgh product showed enough promise in his rookie campaign to possibly steal the number two cornerback position from Levi Wallace during training camp.

Despite spending most of the year on the practice squad, Jackson defended five passes, intercepted one, recovered a fumble, and registered one tackle for loss; he recorded 15 combined tackles for good measure.

Brandon Beane spoke highly of Jackson on the Cris Collinsworth Podcast back in February, even mentioning that Jackson could compete to start for the Bills in 2021.

The battle for the number two cornerback spot may not be decided by the time training camp comes to a close, but expect a fun competition between Wallace and Jackson throughout camp and the preseason.
