A.J. Klein
2021 Cap Hit: $6,400,000
2022 Cap Hit: $5,600,000
2022 Cap Savings: $5,200,000
Considering some of the moves the Buffalo Bills have made this offseason, A.J. Klein could have been a player on the bubble entering training camp. However, there wouldn’t be much gained in terms of cap savings to release him this season and he is a valuable backup with his veteran leadership and experience in Sean McDermott’s defense.
However, next season could certainly be a different story as the Bills could save over $5 million against the cap.
Last season, A.J. Klein got off to a slow start but towards the end of the season was playing at a very high level in place of Matt Milano. He even was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 12 for his performance against the Los Angeles Chargers.
When considering his age and the cap hit he carries, he should be considered a long shot to make the 2022 roster. The decision would certainly get a little tougher if Klein was asked to play an expanded role and played at the level he did against the Chargers.
