It didn’t take long for arguably the biggest Buffalo Bills star to make a suggestion.
In the world of uniforms, helmets have been forced to stick to one color for the longest time. That one helmet rule has come and finally gone, letting teams bring back true throwback looks with alternate colored helmets. Buffalo Bills star wide receiver Stefon Diggs made sure to echo his approval of a fan’s edit on Twitter.
It’s simply an edited picture of the Bills throwback red helmet, current blue home jersey with white pants. However, the helmet stripes and the facemask look to be a silver or almost chrome color. That could be my eyes, but I’m not sure if I 100% approve of it, but it will probably grow on me.
This comes right after I wrote earlier about the red helmet, wondering if the Buffalo Bills would bring them back. I still think an all-red uniform would be great to see. There’s also the possibility that maybe the team brings in a blue helmet as well.
It’s important to remember that this change can’t happen until 2022 when the rule is finally lifted. By then, a lot of teams in the league will have done their research and listened to feedback. The real winners are the fans of the NFL themselves.
The NFL/AFL built itself on being a league full of vibrant teams, players, and uniform colors that attracted so many people to the game today. It’s one of the many reasons that football is the top sport in this country- and no other sport even comes remotely close.
It would be cool to see Stefon Diggs wear the same helmet that Andre Reed and other Bills legends did. Whether or not it’s chrome/silver or the true white, any progress on this subject is good progress.
