Could the Buffalo Bills bring back the red helmet that they wore in four Super Bowl appearances?

Finally, after one of the dumbest rules in all of sports, the “one helmet rule” has been abolished. Starting in 2022, all NFL teams will be able to use throwback helmets or alternate colored ones as teams can finally embrace their throwbacks. This eliminates the silliness of just changing the logo on the helmets.

According to the Gridiron Uniform Database, the Buffalo Bills first donned the red helmets in 1984 and wore them through the 2010 season. Some could say that those helmets were good luck as they featured their Super Bowl runs, but at the same time that it wasn’t. It’s all down to what superstitions one may have when it comes to uniforms.

The blue facemasks (shown above) were there until the start of the 1987 season. I personally think the blue facemasks add a nice contrast to the red shell.  Which do you prefer?

Regardless of which jersey you prefer, to finally have the option to have fun and wear some different uniforms is just as refreshing as when the NFL relaxed its policy on touchdown celebrations.

Possible uniform combinations

There’s the fact that I mentioned earlier this year of two uniform combinations that the Bills haven’t worn yet. Could the Bills assemble an all-red look with the throwback helmet? What if they added a blue helmet as well?

The possibilities are endless and anyone can come up with their preferred uniform. A throwback battle of when the Bills play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be amazing to see. The bold and bright colors were something that the original AFL used to its advantage to help grow in popularity, with the Bills having some great combinations from back in the day.
