2nd – Washington Football Team
Total Yards Allowed 2020 Rank: 2nd
Points Allowed 2020 Rank: 4th
One of the pleasant surprises last year was the Washington Football Team and while they benefited from a weak NFC East, there is no questioning this defense. They finished in the Top 5 in both total yards allowed and points allowed last year and should be just as good this year.
It starts on the defensive line for Washington with Chase Young, who had 7.5 sacks and 12 QB hits as a rookie. However, he isn’t the only player teams have to worry about as every starter is a former first round pick with Jonathan Allen, Montez Sweat, and Da’Ron Payne.
If there was a weakness to attack last year it was the linebackers and outside corners but the Washington Football Team has tried to improve there as well. Jamin Davis, a first round pick this year, is expected to be a starting linebacker as a rookie and they signed Williams Jackson III and Kendall Fuller as free agents.
Sean McDermott should know this defensive scheme well after working so many years under Ron Rivera and this insight may be enough for the Buffalo Bills offense to stay on track against this tough defense.
