Buffalo Bills assistant coaches and their impact on the offense

Headed into the season in 2020, there was much more confidence in the Buffalo Bills‘ defense as opposed to the offense. While young quarterback Josh Allen made some significant strides in his second year as a pro. However, in the wildcard loss vs. the Texans Buffalo’s offense or lack thereof was a major reason why they could not beat the Texans in overtime.

Once the season started that conversation began to change. Allen showed out in his first four weeks throwing for over 1,400 yards and 12 touchdowns. Allen continued his success throughout the season making a very strong for MVP and leading the Bills to their first playoff victory in 25 years.

Allen was a major catalyst in the massive improvements on the offensive side of the ball in 2021. His partner, Stefon Diggs, whom Buffalo traded for previous to the 2021 season also led the NFL in receiving yards and receptions. Diggs and Allen were able to help transform Buffalo into an elite offense and one of the most dangerous in the whole league.

Buffalo’s offense averaged the second-most yards per game and points per game in the NFL. That is a massive improvement over 2019 where they finished 24th and 23rd in those categories. A historic rise from mediocrity to elite was astonishing for many and credit can be given to many different people.

Behind guys like Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs who get a lot of the glory, there is a group of high-level coaches who have various roles and experience. Some of them get much more public credit than others while some go largely unnoticed. However, together they built one of the best offenses in the league, and luckily for Buffalo all of them will be returning in 2021.
