Quarterbacks Coach: Ken Dorsey

After a storied college career playing quarterback at the University of Miami, Ken Dorsey transitioned into coaching after five years as an NFL backup. Hired as a scout for the Carolina Panthers in 2013 he transitioned to quarterbacks coach and was a part of a staff that led the Panthers to the 2015 Super Bowl. Dorsey was fired alongside the rest of Ron Rivera’s staff in 2018 and was hired by Buffalo to be the quarterback’s coach in 2019.

Dorsey was hired by McDermott because of his work with former MVP Cam Newton whom Josh Allen shares similar attributes. Dorsey has made his impact known right off the bat when Allen improved his QB rating by 17.4 points which was the best improvement in the NFL in 2019. The following year Dorsey helped Allen make a massive improvement in his play leading to a season where Allen finished second in MVP voting.

Dorsey has been a big part of Josh Allen’s development. His is experience coaching a high-level quarterback in Newton has helped Dorsey bring Allen to an elite-level quarterback.

Sean McDermott’s hiring of Dorsey has paid off as Dorsey has done exactly what he desired. Dorsey has been so good that many have tabbed him as a replacement for offensive coordinator if Brian Daboll leaves for a head coaching job in the future.

Assistant Quarterbacks Coach: Shea Tierney

Shea Tierney came to Buffalo in 2018 as an offensive assistant after spending time with the University of Alabama and the Philadelphia Eagles. At Alabama, Tierney worked as an offensive analyst under Brian Daboll. Tierney was brought to Buffalo with Daboll and was promoted to assistant quarterbacks coach after just two seasons in Buffalo. Tierney has worked extremely close with Josh Allen during his time with Buffalo and is a noted contributor to the success of Allen and the Bills quarterback room.
