Buffalo Bills: 4 potential moves to use cap space after Stefon Diggs deal

Trade for Zach Ertz

The connection between the Buffalo Bills and Eagles’ tight end Zach Ertz is a logical one. Ertz is a former Pro Bowl tight end and the tight end position is one of the weaker ones on the offensive side of the ball.

The trade discussions around Zach Ertz seemed to tail off as the offseason progressed but according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler they have started to pick back up. Fowler notes that at least three “TE-needy” teams have looked into a trade possibility.

It would make sense for the Buffalo Bills to be one of those teams and with the Bills freeing up about $8 million and Ertz having a cap hit this year of $8.5 million the numbers also seem to align.

For the Eagles, making a move now after June 1st would also be beneficial as they would spread the $7.77 dead cap over two seasons and in turn create $8.5 million in cap space, an increase of just over $3.5 million in comparison to if they traded Ertz before June 1st.

Of the three moves listed for the Buffalo Bills, this would likely be the favorite.
