While the full 2021 schedule for the Buffalo Bills will be released later tonight, the team now knows who they will play to start the season. The Bills will open the season at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 PM.
For any fans that were hoping the Bills would be the opponent for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who will kick off the 2021 season Thursday night, this certainly has to be a disappointment. They not only will not be playing in that marquee game but didn’t get any of the primetime spots in that first weekend of games.
However, this is a game that can’t be taken lightly as it could have significant playoff implications down the road. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the top teams in the AFC and winning the head-to-head tiebreaker this early could help with seeding if the Bills are in that position at the end of the year.
These two teams know each other pretty well and this will be the third straight regular season game where they will face off. In 2019, the Bills played the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Football and won 17-10. This game helped secure a Wild Card spot that season.
Then this past year, the Buffalo Bills once again played the Pittsburgh Steelers during the regular season, also on Sunday Night Football, but this time in Buffalo. The Bills once again came away with a 26-15 win with the big play being Taron Johnson returning an interception for a touchdown near halftime that helped push the Bills ahead.
This game was pivotal for the Bills last year as it helped move them ahead of the Steelers and secure the two seed in the AFC playoffs.
The remainder of the Buffalo Bills 2021 schedule is set to be released tonight at 8 PM.
