The Buffalo Bills continue to put their focus in the trenches and after selecting two defensive ends with their first two picks, they have now selected two offensive tackles with consecutive picks. After selecting Spencer Brown in the third round, they have selected offensive tackle Tommy Doyle out of the University of Miami (OH).

Doyle became a full-time starter in 2018 and started all 10 games at right tackle for the Redhawks. Then in 2019, he moved to left tackle and started all 13 games there. He finished his college career with three starts at left tackle this past season. He was first-team All-MAC in consecutive years in 2019 and 2020 when he started at left tackle.

When looking at Brown and now Doyle, it is clear that the Buffalo Bills want big, athletic offensive tackles. This certainly makes sense when considering they have an athletic quarterback like Josh Allen. When teams have quarterbacks like that, offensive tackles need to be more athletic and possibly hold blocks longer as the pocket shifts when the play breaks down.

This is something that I believe Doyle can do with a little more development. This is going to be a theme for these offensive tackles but the Bills have the luxury of allowing them to do that with Dion Dawkins and Daryl Williams in place.

Quick reaction grade for the Bills selection of Tommy Doyle: C+

The Buffalo Bills appear to be loading up at offensive tackle with players who are big tackles but athletic. Tommy Doyle is similar to Spencer Brown in that he will need time to develop so the Bills could just be making sure they come away with at least one player who could become a starter at the position.

I certainly can understand the selection but this would have been a good spot for the Buffalo Bills to address potential other needs, like wide receiver or safety.
