If the Buffalo Bills are to take a defensive tackle in the first round one of those players could be defensive tackle Christian Barmore out of the University of Alabama. Recently, Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network mentioned the Bills, along with the Tampa Bay Bucs, as two teams who could target Barmore in the first round. Let’s take a closer look at his profile and how he might with the Buffalo Bills.

Measurables/Stats

Height: 6’4″

Weight: 310 pounds

Arms: 33.625″

Hands: 10″

Christian Barmore played 22 games over the past two seasons for the Crimson Tide. He finished with 63 total tackles, 15.5 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, and five passes defended.

NFL.com Scouting Report by Lance Zierlein

"Attack-oriented defensive tackle with a big body, violent hands and the talent to work his way around blocks and find the football. Barmore tends to be in the lead and take control of a majority of reps. His hands and feet sing in harmony and allow him to stay active and free from attempts to sustain blocks against him. His hands are heavy and powerful but also sudden and efficient, which creates early win opportunities for him in the run game and as a pass rusher. Barmore can be his own worst enemy when he freestyles his run fits and prematurely gives away positioning when posting up in read-and-react mode. He’s exceptional at finding a blocker’s edge and swiping past the outside hand to bring the ruckus inside the pocket."

Highlights

How he fits with the Buffalo Bills

It would make sense that the Buffalo Bills would be targeting a defensive tackle in the 2021 NFL Draft. They are expected to get Star Lotulelei back this season but he is not necessarily a long-term answer. The thought was they could wait until the middle rounds and target one-tech tackles like Tyler Shelvin, Alim McNeil, or Tedarrell Slaton.

The fact that they could be looking at Christian Barmore is a little bit of a surprise, and I even recently mentioned Barmore as a player the Bills shouldn’t draft in the first round. This is not because he isn’t a bad player but he doesn’t bring much to the defense that they don’t already have.

Barmore is more of a penetrating tackle similar to Oliver and doesn’t necessarily excel against the run. Now Brandon Beane and the front office could believe this is an area that he could improve or they believe the way to get more of a pass rush is selecting Barmore and play him alongside Oliver.

Next. Prospect to Know: DT Tyler Shelvin. dark

If the Bills were to select Christian Barmore in the first round, they would be getting a good player but it may not address some of the needs at the position.
