As it stands now, the Buffalo Bills are set to be on the clock with the 30th overall selection in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. This pick doesn’t necessarily carry the same weight as some other recent first round picks because picking near the end of the first round usually indicates the team has a good roster and they don’t necessarily need an impact player right away.

However, the Buffalo Bills and the front office needs to be smart with this pick and there are some players they should try to avoid in the first round. These are four of those players starting with a defensive end out of the University of Miami.

Gregory Rousseau

The Buffalo Bills are likely paying close attention to the EDGE rushers in this class and with players like Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison at the top of the depth chart, will want to add some youth. One of those potential players is University of Miami pass rusher Gregory Rousseau.

On paper, he is everything a team could want as he is 6’7″ and 265 pounds and is athletic for his position and able to get to the quarterback quick. He played one full season for the Hurricanes and had 15.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for a loss.

The concern, and likely why he wouldn’t fit for the Buffalo Bills, is that he isn’t much of a run defender as noted in his scouting report on Pro Football Network. This may not be too much of an issue as the Bills do tend to rotate their defensive ends pretty frequently.

However, when combining the fact he isn’t a complete defensive end, along with only one year of production after opting out of this past season due to the pandemic, it would make more sense for the Buffalo Bills to look elsewhere in the first round.
