Steve Tasker

Special teams are often overlooked in the Hall of Fame process and there is no better example than Steve Tasker. He is arguably one of the best to ever play on special teams because of what he brought to that unit.

He was the team’s primary returner on punts when he first joined the Bills in 1987 and was the primary kick returner on kickoffs towards the end of his career in 1995 and then again in 1997. However, he had most of his impact on special teams coverage units. He was recognized as one of the best in the league at the time and went to six straight Pro Bowls, seven overall in his career.

Tasker is also the only player in NFL history to win the Pro Bowl MVP as a special teams player, which he did in 1993. After missing out on the Hall of Fame again, Bruce Smith had this to say about Tasker:

"“The fact that he’s gotten snubbed for a number of years, that is extremely disappointing. He is the greatest all-around special teams player that’s ever played the game – hands down.”"

The impact Steve Tasker has had on the game was greater than Julian Edelman and he is a player that needs to be in the Hall of Fame before the Patriots wide receiver.
